The Last Resident 2014

From November 2013-March 2014 I undertook a residency at a women and children’s refuge in Exeter, Devon, UK. Coinciding with my final weeks came the news that after 30 years the refuge would have to close because of funding cuts. Working with filmmaker Josh Gaunt we made ‘The Last Resident’, a film about what a refuge means to the women and children who pass through.

Distributed via Twitter the film attracted press coverage on what happened in Exeter in a wider context of the national decline of refuges.

The good news is that Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFE) who ran the refuge are in the process of looking for and opening a new refuge for Exeter.
